Cefditoren pivoxil
Indications/Uses
Tonsillitis & acute otitis media due to susceptible bacterial strains.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Childn Acute otitis media Single oral dose of 6 mg/kg 3 times daily. May be decreased according to patient's age & symptoms. Max: 600 mg daily. Tonsillitis Single oral dose of 3 mg/kg twice daily. May be increased according to patient's age & symptoms. Max: 600 mg daily.
Administration
Should be taken with food.
Contraindications
History of shock due to any of the ingredients of Meiact MS Fine Granules 10%.
Special Precautions
History of hypersensitivity to penicillins or other cephem antibiotics. Patients w/ personal or familial predisposition to allergic reactions eg, bronchial asthma, rash or urticaria; poor oral food intake or who are receiving parenteral alimentation & in poor general health. K deficiency symptoms may develop. Monitor for carnitine decrease. Do not administer in patients w/ inborn errors of metabolism. False +ve result in urine glucose test w/ Benedict's, Fehling's soln & Clinitest but not w/ Tes-Tape. Positive result may occur in direct Coombs' test. Severe renal disorder. Pregnancy & lactation. May cause hypoglycemia accompanying hypocarnitinemia in infants & small childn; diarrhea or loose stool in childn <3 yr.
Adverse Reactions
Shock or anaphylaxis; serious colitis w/ bloody stool eg, pseudomembranous colitis; TEN or muco-cutaneo-ocular syndrome (SJS); interstitial pneumonia, pulmonary interstitial emphysema (PIE) syndrome; hepatic function disorder; serious renal disorder eg, acute renal failure; agranulocytosis or hemolytic anemia; hypoglycemia accompanying hypocarnitinemia. Diarrhea, loose stool, queasy, stomach discomfort, abdominal pain; rash; increased AST & ALT count; eosinophilia.
Drug Interactions
Decreased bioavailability w/ antacids or histamine H2 antagonists. Reduced renal excretion w/ probenecid.
